HYBRIDS
Many years of exploring different styles and directions have lead to these new series of paintings. Dystopia and Tochtli are my most recent and figurative bodies of work that are in part inspired by the Lowbrow style. In my current body of work I explore our physiological, social and religious complexities through different aspects of mythology. Having been born and raised in Mexico for the greater part of my life, a religious upbringing was inevitable.
Catholicism and pre-hispanic cultures in Mexico and religious celebrations such as the Day of the Dead inspire me and are ever so present in my work. Hybrids are predominant and key elements in my paintings illustrating our mysticism and human condition. As a result, my new series blend several creatures into one and symbols are decontextualized with a contemporary approach and a great devotion to detail.
